If you agree that things are pretty out of control with some of the choices for female action figures (Tomy, I'm pointing mostly in your direction), I'd like your help in proving a point!
Please be sure to read to the end of this as it contains important info. Thanks!
There are many talented people on this board and I think YOU can do better!
What I propose is this:
Anyone interested in proving that you don't need to spend over $100 to have a cool female figure can enter this contest. The rules are pretty simple and are as follows:
1) The figure is a kitbash, but can have a repainted face if you have done it. (no re-roots though)
1a) No custom clothing, footwear, or accessories
1b) No custom weapons
2) No body mods
2a) No sculpting
2b) You can modify a neck to attach a head that is not standard for the body type. That is the ONLY body modification allowed.
3) Bonus points for the following bodies (because they're ALL still available easily and fairly cheap):
3a) Obitsu
3b) Volks
3c) BBI PB
3d) Soldier Story
3e) Triad Otaku
3f) Sideshow
3g) Aoshima Ladies Mission
3h) ZC Girl
3i) Barbie or other fashion dolls
3.1) Feel free to use the following bodies as well, but consider they are usually harder to find and/or more expensive:
3.1a) Dragon v1 or v2
3.1b) CG 1.0, 1.5, 2.0
3.1c) Hot Toys
3.1d) Medicom
3.1e) 21C
4) You must break out a price list of EACH part you use in your kitbash. If it came from a boxed figure, please compare the item to comparable items for sale from retailers or on ebay.
5) NO IDENTIFYING TEXT ON THE IMAGE SUBMISSIONS (so I can hold an anonymous vote)
5b) Do not post images here or on other boards please. They'll be posted in a random order by me for voting after the contest deadline arrives.
6) No photoshop effects on the pictures. Background can be your living room, outside, custom built diorama, whatever. No points awarded for scenery, but feel free to make the background as cool as you'd like.
7) Maximum image size should be 1280x1024 (or close to it)
9) Win a prize (optional...but I imagine you'd want one if you won right?)
So the intent of this is to prove that you don't need to spend an arm and a leg to come up with a cool female figure. The TOTAL figure cost should be UNDER $75USD. Special consideration is given to those who can bash an exceptional figure for under $50USD.
Are you up for the challenge?
I will offer up to the winner my meager prize:
Aoshima/Skynet Ladies Mission No. 8 "Training Suit B". Kill Bill lookalike set. Never opened. I think the figure comes with extra hands, but not having opened it, it's hard to see inside.

I wanted to dig in my pockets and give out a little something else for 2nd and 3rd place winners also. So, I contacted Warlord's Keep about a $20 gift certificate for 2nd place and a $10 certificate for 3rd place. Well, they're going to match it! Thanks Paul and Laura!
That's right...that means 2nd place will get $40 to spend at Warlord's Keep and 3rd place will get $20. 1st place prize is still the Lady's Mission figure as before.
Please send your entry (with your MWD or IOT user name) to:
Entries are
top secret until the deadline. At that time I will post the entries and hold an anonymous vote. The vote will factor in to the decision of who is the
ultimate winner. DEADLINE IS 2/14/2009 (Valentines Day...perfect right?) So get crackin' if you want to enter! EDIT: Yes this is legit. Yes if you win you will get your prize. Yes if only one person enters, they win by default. Yes you will kick yourself for not entering if that happens. I've had a contest on my site before and had 2 MWD'ers win prizes that they did in fact receive. I expect nothing from this but the satisfaction of being a catalyst for fun and maybe having a little better karma in my life. That's it.
EDIT again: Added Volks, Sideshow, Barbie, and Ladies Mission bodies to the "bonus" point section. Added additional section for other body types.
EDIT ... yeah I know... : Added stipulation for modding necks to accept a head not made for the body. See 2b.
EDIT for hopefully the last time: Specified US Dollar for totals thus not penalizing our Canadian friends.
EDIT numer one million: For those who have asked... you are not limited to one figure...BUT all figures/accessories must be under $75. You can display the figure in multiple outfits (as long as ALL outfits are calculated into the cost), but can submit only one picture.
